I slip seat onto blank and slide till it is in position with butt of blank just touching armpit with arm streched out. Another way to determine how far up blank seat should be is to go outside and put hands in position to cast.make a few casts with hands in different positions. It shouldnt take long to figure out what feels best for you.Did the 1204 as a spinning rod with 40hh sic for first guide .I use this with shimano sustain 6000f and the grey ande 15# line.It casts extremely well and you dont get backlashes in reel ever.

For that rod go 40HH , 30 , 25 , 20 , 16 and a 16 tip. Sometimes I will also add a 12 for a 6th guide but still use the 16 tip. depends on the layout for a specific reel location and type. set gathering guide about 36 from spool face.
