				DSA Constitution & Bylaws

As amended by the 2017 National Convention
CONSTITUTION
Article I. Name

The name of this organization shall be the Democratic Socialists of America, a not-for-profit corporation.
Article II. Purpose

We are socialists because we reject an economic order based on private profit, alienated labor, gross inequalities of wealth and power, discrimination based on race, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, disability status, age, religion, and national origin, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo. We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution, feminism, racial equality and non-oppressive relationships. We are socialists because we are developing a concrete strategy for achieving that vision, for building a majority movement that will make democratic socialism a reality in America. We believe that such a strategy must acknowledge the class structure of American society and that this class structure means that there is a basic conflict of interest between those sectors with enormous economic power and the vast majority of the population.
Article III. Members
Section 1.

 "the future of this country"

Very unlikely. The future of the democratic party perhaps, not the future of the country.

'Millennials in particular, are flocking to this belief.'

Some are, and they might be shrieking the loudest, but still not all of them.

This pathologically lying socialist in NYC who just won a congressional primary, was once a business owner who had a publishing start up, and back then (which wasn't all that long ago), she wrote about the burdens of taxation on those trying to start up a new business. But now she, the socialist, is asking the public to give her a job paying 175k a year with all kinds of lucrative benefits. So like many liberals (Bernie Sanders in particular comes to mind), it's OK if SHE gets wealthy, but it's wrong if I try to acquire some wealth. They're like people who, once they get into the castle, then, and only then, do they raise the drawbridge. Only after they are secure.

It's unbelievable the way this party is imploding. AT the national level at least.

Are these the same pollsters who all said trump was going to get creamed?

I think the dems
Will take the house by a nose. I think the gop will almost certainly keep the senate, more likely to gain seats than to lose the senate- too many dems up for re-election in states that trump won.

Just because I’m pointing out a free fall, doesn’t mean I feel threatened. The numbers of who holds how
Many federal and state sets, appear to back me up - true or false?

I do take comfort in that. I’d take more comfort, if both sides would take a small step towards each other.

Because trump is a scumbag. Bill Clinton was also a scumbag, and no prominent democrats left the party. What does that tell you about which side has meaningful principles? I don’t agree with the never trumpers but they have the courage of their convictions. And many people who are still in the party, like me, heap criticism on trump. Did the left do that with bill Clinton? If so I missed it.

Government bodies have hearings all the time, sometimes just to give some people a forum to speak out. Sort of like this one but you can see their faces. If you are a citizen of Boston and have strong feelings about this, you should attend.
Now I can say that I don't think you should get the right to vote without becoming a citizen. And my ancestors would agree, I remember those discussions.

Here is a link to the City Council meeting, I would assume that if you are a resident of Boston you could testify. Hmmm, wonder how they will deal with that? How do they determine who is allowed to testify?

While it's not illegal under federal law, there are only a handful of communities in the entire country that allow non-citizens to participate in local government ballots. I could maybe see it for a school board where the non-citizen is paying taxes and has a child who's education they want to participate in. Not sure of the value for much beyond that...it's one of the privileges of citizenship.

SACRAMENTO (CBSLA) — The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced Wednesday that more than a million undocumented immigrants have received driver’s licenses.

does this make them..."documented"?

Trump could give the data to his deportation force and expel them with little effort...sure the US economy would implode but we'd be great again!

Nobody missed it, you just like to throw on your Tin Foil hat and start flinging accusations like your Oprah Friggin Winfrey giving away toasters.

One of the great things about this country is the right to vote, so why don't those living here legally become naturalized citizens, then they can vote. Why take away the motivation to want to become a citizen of this country. You know, one of the Perks of being a citizen

You mean when more people who work during the week would better be able to cast a vote.....all for that, I wonder how that would affect the results

God forbid we actually make people prove they are allowed to vote before they vote...those bastards. Why don't we just get rid of drivers licenses while we are at it, why should people have to prove they are allowed to drive before they get behind the wheel of a car.

All have four of these, the other three come with citizenship

Freedom to express yourself.

Freedom to worship as you wish.

Right to a prompt, fair trial by jury.

Right to vote in elections for public officials.

Right to apply for federal employment requiring U.S. citizenship.

Right to run for elected office.

Freedom to pursue “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

Actually, i wasn't having a snowflake moment over the story. I am pretty happy with my stance on it. Become a citizen, enjoy your voting rights. Pretty cut and dry.

I was actually having a "snowflake" moment at your asinine assumption that since we don't think they should be allowed the right to vote until they are granted citizenship, that we somehow lack the intellect to understand the whole sentence/thought process.

....and you know what is an even weaker argument, thinking that just because they didn't do it before, doesn't make it a good idea to do it now.

change happens because of something usually factual ...the factual information is the need to require ID to vote is based on the rights conspiracy theory of voter fraud which no facts support ... yet we have many facts showing the assault on voting is a GOP led operation

heres one never made it into law but it make the point

The amendment, introduced by Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) and approved on May 9, 2012, was aimed at preventing the Justice Department from using its funds “to bring any action against any state for implementation of a state law requiring voter identification.”almost entirely with Republican votes.

In other words, even if the Department of Justice thought a voter ID law discriminated against African Americans or Latinos, it could not sue to protect them.

In other words??? How about in totally different, non-sensical words, based on assumptions, that don't have anything to do with the actual amendment.

In order to drive you need ID
To collect benefits you need an ID
To board a plane you need ID
To enter the country you need ID
To open a bank account you need ID
To cash a check you need ID

The list of things goes on and on, and it is not discriminatory to require it

is not discriminatory to require it.. your correct if the reason to to start requiring them . "to combat voter fraud " But prior to the 2006 election, no state ever required a voter to produce a government-issued photo ID as a condition to voting. to start with ...

So yes its discriminatory enacted a law to solve a problem that never and still does not exist ..
