				CCBC Surfster 7400 Replica

Heres something new Im working on.

Replica of a Creek Chub Bait Co Surfster 7400. Was going to buy on the auction site the other day but went for $180, and it was pretty beat. Buddy had an original, well fished from his dad so used that one for the model.

Should weigh around 2.5 to 2.75 oz when done.

7.75" long

Deep recessed eyes to accept some vintage style real glass eyes.

Need to grab some big surfster lips now.

Plan on doing these for plugfest to swap. Think the upper lip needs to be thicker and beefed up.

I looked up some original paint schemes from them, crazy stuff for the 50s, definetly ahead of there time.

Ditto what Larry said. I had tremendous luck on those in the 80's on the Vineyard. White botton, medium brown on top...

		 Thanks Larry.

After looking at the original closer the upper lip needs to be beefed up alot. I'll make sure it's right next time.

I live surfsters too, but hate the way they cast.

Going to play around and see if I can't add a little weight without effecting the action.

Won't swim like your GR plug Johnny. Designed to swim right on top, makes a massive v wake. I'm planning on making some with a pikie lip to see how deep they'll go. Hopefully with a slow crank it will stay on the surface and go about a foot or two down with a faster retrieve.

Yeah after some bad experiences with the PVC going back to wood and thru wire.

Here's one I did over the winter http://www.striped-bass.com/Stripert...tml#post731579 and finally painted a few weeks ago. Was going to do an orig. Creek Chub Yellow flash, but went with my version. Working on some 6.5" surfsters and Pikies now. Will post some photo's when finished.

		 Looks good!!

How does it swim?

Did you use the big saltys lip?

Im hoping that with a few different lips and some weights I can make that plug very versatile.

How did this work out for you? I was actually about to start on a replica of a 7400 (?) Surfster 2-hook version. It took me awhile to get my surfsters to swim right. They were based on a non Creek Chub design.

Gadabout, I haven't tested this version yet, as I'm waiting for sealer to dry and hardware to come in.

My only problem with surfsters is they cast awful, hopefully will be able to rememedy this over the winter.
