Safe ice on cape cod

Hi
It was beginning to look like we were finally going to get some descent ice here. Hadn't been in years and planned on going,,, (if can find all the gear I lent out ) does this snow cover help or hurt? As I recall it may insulate and slow down the process,,, yes?
Real nasty out there right now! ❄ ⛄

if the ice is safe it will help mostly.. if on the borderline than possibly set it back some as the snow will insulate it from this nice cold spell we are gonna have. on the bright side the high winds should help clear this fluffy powder off the lakes some

I LOVE it when MY WIFE lets me fish

also over looked this aspect but the ponds i see open are now full of slush wich will freeze quicker than just water, not as safe so needs to be at least 5" if white ice. 2-1/2-3 of clear black ice is much stronger.

Last night/today will surely change things as will this cold streak. Depending where you went there was some safe ice. One cove/side pond of a larger body of water that I fish had 3 of solid ice and maybe 2 of white ice on top Sunday. There was a good amount of snow so this rain will cause slush ice for sure.

there's about 2-3'' on long pond in yarmouth on the good side... but the north side still looks sketchy. Someone drilled a few holes yesterday I was checkin out this mornin. The Enviromental Police drove by and stopped, he wasnt very impressed I was out there, but he was nice enough. Tomorrows temps will not be helping. Can we just get a decent sustained freeze please!?

Skunked at Scargo and then this monster at Wequaqet,,,,

Saw a guy pull a duck up through a hole today, darnedest thing I ever saw. There was open water about 10 to 15 yards away!
