FLASH BACK to a simpler time

funny how it works

when your memory gets Jogged

heard this woman on TV calling her kid

and then i remembered how "way back when"
my DAD used to stand on the front porch
and give me a holler ... CRAIG ! SUPPER !

knowing how good my hearing was......
i could be many blocks away and his Booming voice
was definitely heard
above all the other neighborhood noise....

now a-days kids receive a text message

My mom was the original "holler-back" girl.
With her trill Irish voice, you could hear her calling from 1/4 mile away.
Oh, and with 9 kids you didn't have to wait to hear YOUR name, you just knew the natural progression: "Susan, Paul, Michael, Timmy, Joey, Johnny, Bobby, Mary and Theresa...Supper Time!!!"

Everyone within a 2 block radius knew who we were and when it was time to go home.

I am a legend in my own mind!

My father has a loud unique whistle and claiming not to hear it was not an acceptable excuse for my brothers and me. I'm 55 now and my family thinks it's hilarious that he will still whistle if we're some considerable distance apart, and instinctively I'll hone in on what direction it came from.

When I was a kid I'd go out to play and then instead of calling me for dinner, my parents would take my sisters out to eat and I'd get home and be locked out of the house.

Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about empowering people to catch up, to give them tools at their disposal that make it possible for them to access all the hope, all the promise, all the opportunity that America offers. - Marco Rubio

Yep , this was a common thing In Central Falls where I lived until 12 years old. There was also a very high density of kids and many were being called home but you and all the neighbors learned to just ignore everybody else's call but instantly picked up on your name amongst them all.

Another common occurrence was kids standing in the yard calling up to other kids to come out and play who lived on the second or third floor of the tenements. You called , they stuck their heads out the window and you talked about them coming out to play or why they couldn't , etc. Everybody knew everybody elses business!
