swivel rod holders

looking to fight from the rod holder, after last season im done doing these fish standup.

does anyone know where to get these in the boston area-ish? i found a couple websites but they arent cheap and i want to check em out before i buy em. or any reccomendations on brands etc would be nice too.

do i even need these or would a straight 90 degree holder work fine?

You want 0 degree for swivel mounts. I have 4 on my boat. 2 are Lees and 2 were made by a local guy that can be bought at Green Harbor. They are the same performance wise. Make sure you use backing plates and I used 5200 also just for good measure. they are rock solid. No flex in Steigercrafts gunnels.

You need to use bent butts for the swivels to work properly.

We run 4 lee's, and 1 CJ - the CJ is a little longer than the Lee's.
If you have a standard 0 degree holder and want to convert it to a swivel, there are a few companies that sell a swivel insert that you can drop down.

Fishermans outfitter and CMS both sell them, and I'm sure most over other offshore shop does as well.

Ditto - what Keeperreaper said about backing plates. Breaking loose a plate on a fish sucks.

Hey Jay, Ever try the golfball trick? How well does it work in pinch?

I'd like to add some swivels but my gunnels are closed. I'd have to cut a hole, then patch it, doubt it would still match my speckled gunnel

Yes. Otherwise the rods wil be pointing straight up and that lends itself to all sorts of trouble.

I've never done it, but my father said he did it once on a friends boat along time ago. He said it was very uncomfortable having his 130's sitting up high and not really locked in at all.

Christian, went through the same thing not too long ago. I ended up with 0's or 90 degree. I bought Solo drop-in swivels and got the best of both worlds. They work great. I use Pacific Bay short bent butt rods, then you can use them for stand up also. Be carefull to check the depth of the rod holders,I had to bring some back because they were too long to fit in my gunnels. Good luck

I've got these on my boat (plus standard Lee type for my bass rods)
Long bent butts & long holders for big fish!
I wouldn't suggest the golf ball thing unless your either into smaller fish or want problems if your on a bigger fish.
Last time I was in R&R they had 1 CJ holder on the shelf so I know they can get them.

Go the cheap the way.. buy a 90 deg. drop a golf ball in it.... seriously

Cut the ball in half and you gain a little depth, install round side up

We use the golfball trick. Cut it in half and drop it down.
Seems to work well.

Looks like that rod holder needs to be rescrewed in.

Many a fish have succumbed to the titleist under a rod.

Hey Jeff, you may wan't to rethink that leg over the gunnel thing. That Mako last year was what 585? Might love to munch a leg for a change of pace. how's schoo; going for you? You and dad get any Bambi's yet?

Jeff went swimming under the boat to unwrap a fish from the prop the day before and the same spot where Taylor caught that Mako
He took three deer this year, Got two does with the bow yesterday and he got both kills on tape.
