20mm tip tops
anyone know where I can get them I got my last on on a rod rebuilt at cms. I can't find a replacement. surfrod and it looks like a fuji hardloy. thanks ed.  |

Yes, you can get them from http://www.summermoonrodworks.com/ They are under Fuji BPST 20-10. They are SiC tips and they run about $11.00 each.  |

not too big for a lami 1201 or 1321 in fact it is a nice size because you can bring a swivel through it or a bit of sea grass without causing a problem. You can't chip a SiC guide with a swivel unless you cast it through.

yes, it's too big. there is rarely if ever a need for a size 20 tip. the whole point of having guides on the spinning rod is to quickly compress the line to a straight line. with a size 20 or even 16 tip the line is still about 1" in diameter, rovolving like it was coming off the reel. you are losing energy and distance. the idea is to get the line as straight a line as possible coming out of the tip. trust me, you will gain in distance. it's been proven.
why would i want to bring my barrel thru my tip? i want my barrel to stop at the tip so i don't have to keep pulling it out each time i bring it thru.
the sic 20mm ringed tip is heavy and will also lead to a top heavy feeling rod, especially in the cast follow-thru where the rod "bounces" up and down until the energy from the rod is released.

Freddie's tackle in Montauk uses #20 tips on their custom rods.I have been using a 20 tip for several seasons without any problem. What you are saying makes sense though. You're right though...this completely goes againts the new "concept" design. I'll have to try with a smaller tip and see if I notice a difference.

I got a g1321l and I've never noticed it being heavy. mike thanks, I'm going to stop by your shop, I just have to get some time out of work 30 hours overtime because of snow this week, I'm wiped. thanks everyone ed. |
