Guppy, that is the FG knot.
I just did a few leaders recently with it and it is very low profile and goes thru guides great, esp. on the rod I just wrapped which I used micro runners.
That tool is absolutely unnecessary
I also put a drop of zap-a-gap in the knot when done.

I’ve tied it a couple times, I re tie so many so often that I don’t have the patience for it...
I should, my go to rods are all micro runners.....

I have the tool and love it.
Ties a much more consistent and dependable knot than the other ways.
I had two years of experience tying and fishing this knot prior to buying the tool. No way I'd go back to doing without it.

Which tool do you use? I've been tying it freehand using the rod in a holder or wedged in my legs for tension. It works fine at home or on a calm boat but would be hard in some seas. |

+2 in every respect re Xman/numbskull QUOTE. In fact, Xman bought me the tool as I was skeptical and too otherwise cheap. I can still tie this knot in the field across my fingers with some tape; however, it is not as reliable or durable bashing in and out of guides with casting.
Oh, it so pains me to admit that Numbskull is correct about anything... |

I have the knot assist 2.0 tool.
It makes the job a much more compact operation (it doesn't require using the rod) and tension remains more controllable.
I had several knots fail (while casting of all things) when tied using the "no tool method". That has not been an issue since.
