Lucky 13
Hi guys, I am not a builder just a user of your customs. I am curious if anyone has made a sinking swimmer like the freshwater lucky 13's? I would think the erratic action that they have would be similar to a darter in current. Maybe these have been made in yrs past, just curious.

Numbskull, do you know what came first? The Heddon Lucky has a similar face to a bottle darter.
In this pic you can see how they changed the design.

Yeh Larry I know, I have fished them for years in freshwater. I was just curious if anyone here made a heavy saltwater model. If you threw one you would see the erratic action they have. I would think they would be much easier to make than a darter or bottle darter. Not that there is anything wrong with those. You can never have enough toys in your bag. Just lots of ideas in my head and since I don't build, I have to ask.  |

I assume the Lucky 13 antedates the Gibbs bottle by a lot. The gibbs has a slightly different face shape with more curvature to the sides. The musso bottle is closer to the heddon plug.

How do they float, where does the water cross the back of the plug and where does it cross the face?

The ones I fished had weight in the arse and floated with the snout almost straight up. They will wake nicely on top, but will also bob when chugged. When you get the nose under, they have a short consistant wiggle but then fail to one side or the other. Very versatile. I had invisioned a large wood with more weight to hold better in current. Just randon thoughts though.  |

I dont remember I think it is too much weight though.

Ha, Ha, no I was just curious if it would be easier and less trial and error to get a nice swimming plug without having to install a metal lip and also that is easier to make than say a bottle or even a darter. |
