Once schoolie season is over I target larger fish probably 70% +

I tend to go to bigger fish spots, tend to use eels or bigger wood, and try to use bigger fish tactics but I could honestly do a more intense effort for the bigger fish...

Sometimes, it is just necessary to go our and fish (but might as well go to bigger fish spots

)

What is exhiliarating is going light and bagging a biggun. But when you lose a large because of light tackle its frustrating

Honestly........ my favorite type of fishing is throwing plugs....probably a 50/50 day/night split but during the day I am more interested in just seeing fish hammer plugs.....but by night I try to target larger fish! I just plain enjoy getting out there and catching......sure the bigger the better but just as long as my line is tight......I am a happy camper!

don't get me wrong, any fish is a good fish but I fish for trophies

tough time of the year for me since the schoolies are in but I won't fish until the weight comes, usually the 2nd week in may.

TattooBob I could not agree more! I learned the hard way never to get caught with my perverbial pants down.....so I always use gear that I know if the big girls rings....I stand a better than average chance of beaching her!

big fish gear all the time. I would rather get skunked and maybe hit a 30 lber than just catch schoolies. if i want schoolies, i will sometimes tie on a teaser, but for the most part i am using heavy gear, heavy line, etc..

we eat fish, as long as they are legal they are dead.

If its a big fish then I can freeze some for winter.

Only big fish for most of the season altho ill go early and real late to get some fish in.
If you wanna get good fish you gotta fish the right things, the cows are bigger than most people think when there at your feet.

There are so many things that can go wrong why not stack the odds in your favor with the right heavy tackle etc.
My fav cow sticks are a Lami 1321 and 1363m, with a vs and at least 30lb power pro more often than not thats 65pp instead. Rigged eels and live eels are deadly altho a 5" redfin will catch monsters like you wouldnt believe.

Depends upon the situation. But usually I will favor a biggun' over a bunch of schoolies. I don't want to knock them, but I would be much happier with one 30-pounder plus than 15 2-pounders.

Half the time as long as they have stripes Im happy. But Im ALWAYS geared for larger fish, stripes make me happy. Big fish gimme a freakin' B0]\[3R!

That color looks good with the sissy bars and wizard of oz basket. I would leave it alone. Cards in the spokes would toughen it up a little, though. I'll donate my Wily Mo rookie card for starters.

Oh yeah, I usually do one or two schoolie trips, then masquerade as a big, bad cow hunter for the rest of the season.

And...don't forget the streamers hanging from the ends of the handlebars. Actually, it'll keep other fishermen from taking you seriously and paying close attention to your spots and methods.

P.S. Big fish when available. I think most fishermen agree.

I am rigged for Moby #^&#^&#^&#^& except early spring and when I carry two rods (heavy conventional and a light spinner) in the late fall. Light spinner is for daytime small fish blitzes.

I do a couple schoolie trips to get that itch and to get out in the salt again then it is heavy gear. Broke off a few fish with my Conventional Abu 7000 50 PP and 50 Fluro, last year in the canal that burried themselves in riff raff. I would like a few more chances with them.

On the boat I troll for cows only, but I love to rig my freshwater rods for schoolies off the shore. My daughter and I will be going today. I have cought a 25 pounder on ten pound test, 6'6 medium uglystick, talk about a battle! the lure I use is so effective that we slam the continuously, it's great fun. I discovered the setup I use by fishing with a friend of mine, after a couple nights of him catching ten to my one, I was sold.

Kinda funny, When i lived in CT i fished the flats and caught large on 6'6" St. Croix w/penn 4500 spooled with 12-17# mono.
Now I live in Maine and only fish the rivers with the same setup or my trusty 8-wt. and i have caught many over 50#. I do break off once or twice a year but river fish and stripers on the flats must not run like those in the surf or rocks.
Before anyone says it, No I don't fight the fish to exhaustion, most of the time I am able to land fish in the 32-50" range within 2-5 minutes.
I also only keep 2-5 a year and they are only slot fish, I will not keep a breeder cow. Just kinda funny how fish in different places will fight differently. I probably wouldn't be able to land a medium sized striper down where you all fish.
