Trying to classify Franks music into a specific genre is impossible IMO, good luck if you can.
Here is some more really fantastic stuff. Long I know but worth the time. I find myself tending to gravitate more to this instrumental, jazzy, type of his music more as I get older. So much talent assembled in his bands and the musicians in this are fantastic. . A pleasure for my ears. Starts out a little dark but give it a chance. I especially like the last cut.
IF you have interest here is the poop on this music
Love George Duke <----- He is greatly underrated ..
nice Pual .. I've seen another George Duke talking about Zappa .. Funny ,, All these interviews ,, Ruth ,, Bozzio,, Duke ,, Steve Via .. all love playing for Zappa and praise him highly .. As demanding as he was nobody says "that prick "
Winging it ... Yea Moving to Montana is nice but imho this really gets good at 10:55 ,, Starting with George Duke and showcases how Frank conducted his band .. Amazing to me .. Jazz man .. and great dynamics .. unlike Dweezill .. I thought the kid got it .. after last show I have my doubts ,, this is the real deal ..
I just enjoy listening to the musicians explaining the difficulty they would have trying to accomplish what Frank wanted out of the music. I find it very interesting that most of the musicians were very accomplished and how much they luved the challenge of trying to play his stuff an also the fact that most everything they played was arranged by Frank. There wasn't a whole lot of free styling. Frank was in control with a vision. Just real cool stuff. Some I have to be in the mood for but pretty much everything he did I enjoyed at one time or another and am still discovering new stuff all the time which is always a welcomed enjoyment.
