And two of them, the socialist and the communist parties are fairly influential. The head of the Communist Party USA has explicitly said that they work to get Democrats elected--in order to move the country to a point when communism will more readily be accepted by Americans. The CPUSA once sued the Democrat Party for running on basically the Communist party platform. The Democrats, Communists, and Socialists, are varying shades or degrees of an unlimited centralized system of government--that absolute power that you fear.
