First go to CP, sounds and test a couple sounds. Eliminate a Kazza problem

Sounds like something is using the audio system at the same time. What OS are you running? Turn off all the apps, close all the windows. Reboot, turn off all the crap (except VScan) that starts up on bootup. See if it works. The diag message says something else is runing at the same time.
Yes, moving a PC arounnd CAN knock stuff loose. Pull the cover and with the PC OFF but power still plugged in, discharge your static to the case (you really should use a wrist strap if you don't know what you're doing). Check to see if you have an external sound card (not built into the MB). Make certain it is secure by applying equal pressure on the board inline with the slot (most likely a white slot) If not n ecternal card, check to see if there are any cables running from where you plug in speakers to. If the jack is part of the board, you're sol. It may be a small ribbon cable running from the board to one of the slots on back too - just make sure its tight...
Without knowing what kind of PC, MB, and whatever that's all I can think of off the top of my head...
