Just to echo Bill. I also have used 2 Calcutta 400 for years. Both are on 9' rods and they have performed flawlessly. I wouldn't use any other reel in the surf. I do, however, use Abu 7000s for livelining on the boat but throw eels with the 400s. I also like the Abu 6500 C3 for throwing plugs on the boat. Never tried them in the surf.
