In Portland, Ore. a century old statue of George Washington was toppled and vandalized Thursday night. Perpetrators spray-painted demeaning messages such as “White fragility,” “Damn White Men,” and “1619,” which is a reference to The New York Times‘s ahistorical initiative on slavery and the American Founding.
