Unless you are running Linux "Free" usually means there is some pain along the way.

AV software has gotten out of control IMO. You definitely need it on a windows machine but the resources these things consume is mind numbing. If you have a machine that is a few years old and install some of this stuff, it can take over your machine. I think the AV developers think the CPU is just for the AV software. If you have real work to do forgetaboutit. There is more to life than looking for viruses
