Ed personally no. The rod was built for a friend and loves the feel and grip. Slightly more grip than the X wrap. Much better grip than the standard commercial shrink wrap.

Ed the source name is fishincomfort, ebay. Type in smooth (non x pattern) heat shrink wrap. Comes in for sizes.

I would like to use it with under lament whether straight or spiral wrapped and with Mason string. I would like to see the wrap.

Drew , I would be interested when you get it. Hopefully its the right one. I like the feel of it. I think a grip w/o sanding the smooth wrap currently used is a plus.

Went to RISSA yesterday and did the norm checking out all that was there. I notice many rod butts using the Japanese wrap shrink wrap. I always like the feel and it's grip. Tried to find a supplier...
