Help/Advice on Tracking spots

Before I got the truck, I walked a ton on the beach. Marked spots I wanted to fish at low tide by keeping track of how many paces from a landmark it took to get there (i.e. starting from Beach Cut 1, I would go 50 steps East to reach an out suck).

Now that I'm going to be able to go down the beach much further, how do you guys keep track of your spots? One person mentioned they went by their Odometer (mine is kinda funky). I don't have GPS or any of that but I really hope not to drive forward with me just looking at the water and accidentally running things over or causing problems with fellow drivers on the beach. There are no real landmarks to go by either (especially at night).

Do you have a smartphone? Turn on GPS in phone and take pics, the pics will have GPS coordinates for a record (might be an option you have to turn on)

Zeal Just mark off the tenths from a starting point to a spot. Then how many tenths to the next spot. We would write on the underside of the sun visor and keep it to yer self.
been there ,good luck

Exactly!! Back before GPS in the truck we measured from one hole to the nexted. We had a hole we called 2th Hole because it was 2ths of a mile south of the mission bell.

No spot burn as this was in 94, 95, 96. Hole is long gone or full of seals.

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly are the "tenths"? I get the tenths of a mile but where am I supposed to be looking to mark this off?

There are many apps that will convert your smart phone to a GPS where you can mark spots. you can also drop pins on google earth or maps.

I use my tripometer . 0 it out when I enter the beach and write down what it says for distance . Then you have it untill you paper gets wet or lost . I dont use gps , just another thing to break or get lost .

I fished it one night with NY Eddie, Lanny G, Tony C, and a few others and it was epic. One of those night you remember forever.
