Remove everything amd get AVG free and spybot search and destroy. They are both free and excellant.

Your ISP typically includes paid AV subscriptions. Call them and see if McAfee or Symantec is provided as part of your ISP fees

Working for an ISP i am anti security software. The packages are garbage amd only a sense of security when in fact all those major paid security suites companys are the most attacked by hackers and viruses.

Let alone what they do to the speed of the pc over time.

Stay open source and free with AVG.

Windows Defender should be already running on your Win 8 pc. If you're paranoid, like Skippy said, AVG works. I, personally don't use any AV..the key is being careful what you click on.

AVG Free is the minimum and arguably the best way to go.

What type of pop ups are you getting? Did you try to download AVG? Is that where the pop-ups came from?

yj1990 01-24-2014 01:54 PM

I think its loaded but I cant find a icon or if it working do I need to shut down all the windows firewall ect?

fishaholic18 01-24-2014 01:57 PM

First you need to find out what the pop ups are. What link did you use to dl AVG? You have to remove any other AV programs on your pc 1st b4 installing AVG or it will cause a conflict. Here is a good AVG dl link http://free.avg.com/us-en/free-antivirus-download

iamskippy 01-24-2014 06:29 PM

Yeah your going to need a little more help then just installing some anti virus stuff, if that is what i beleive it is. Try to get atleast spybot search and destroy on the pc. Run a full scan and post back here or.PM me.

Unless you are running Linux "Free" usually means there is some pain along the way.

AV software has gotten out of control IMO. You definitely need it on a windows machine but the resources these things consume is mind numbing. If you have a machine that is a few years old and install some of this stuff, it can take over your machine. I think the AV developers think the CPU is just for the AV software. If you have real work to do forgetaboutit. There is more to life than looking for viruses
