Short lived Netflix dvd service
 
Just got an email saying the Netflix 1 out dvd deal is going up from $1.99 to $8 a month. At that rate its better to do Redbox as desired.I still get the unlimited streaming for $7.99 a month which IMO is worth it...at least for now.

what makes me mad is the deals to delay to streaming, I'm to the point now where I am thinking of ditching netflix

I heard the deal was that people on the Netflix $9.99 unlimited streaming and unlimited One-out physical movies were now being charged $7.99 for streaming and $7.99 for the unlimited rentals.

I said "screw it" and am just going to cancel my service.

Walk in rentals are done. Online rentals will be done before iPhone 6. Everything will be streaming right from the tv with 1 service provider including 3d. Btw it will all be smart phone compatable.These
companies are toast anyway..

I average 2.5 movies a week from netflix....which is roughly 10 movies a month for $7.99....that would be $10 @ Redbox...its still cheaper

redbox also doesn't have a lot of the older movies on DVD which Netflix does.....and which the majority of my rentals are.

I also hit the library in town....they rent movies...and I can order them online from other libraries in the area and they will deliver them to mine and send me an e-mail when they come in.

At first I sometimes got the 3 movies a week but then it was always 2. I found lots of times I was just getting a movie to get something , no special tital opr interest. Rdbox if I see nothing I want i don't spend the money.

Its not big money either way but i was surprised that the $1.99 DVD deal didn't even last me 5 months.

Maybe they will offer more streaming because I think a lot of people will be dropping the DVD plan , especial if its a single person household.

I ditched netflix a long time ago because I just don't watch movies, I can barely keep up with Deadlist Catch on DVR!

Still, even when things are streaming from TV's who do you think is going to provide that service? It's already happening, netflix has their 'app" embedded in all kinds of TVs and devices. If anybody is going to survive through this, it will be them.
who the hell wants to watch a movie on their iphone? I don't! I've heard apple is toying with the idea of making a TV, THAT would be interesting....

I know Netflix stockseems overvalued right now, so I'm not saying I would invest right now, but if the price drops drastically because of this, I would buy then!

The price went up 60%! Screw that.. I don't even watch TV during the week. Only reason I got it was to get movies for the kids on the weekend but their selection sucks! I'm canceling mine. Now I just wish Redbox would step up their game a little..I refuse to get cable!

I switched to streaming only. You know if they just raised it a buck a month I never would have known. The double price in your face email they sent was a poor strategy on their part.

I think I am going to cancel my sibscription. Theres really no reason for a 60% overnight increase.
And I have enough movies to hold me over for awhile.
Maybe if enough people cancel they will reconsider. I doubt it. But just maybe.

I'm with you Greg. Especially over the summer when I watch very little TV, and that's just usually a Sox game. I thought about keeping the streaming since it's built into 3 of my components. But I haven't streamed anything in over a month. Plus the DVD's usually end up hanging around the house for over a week. I should probably thank them for the wakeup email.

Just spoke to customer service. They told me I was paid up until the middle of the month so no point canceling today.

They said they are getting alot of complaints and "taking them into consideration". We shall see.

Never tried netflix, streaming or otherwise. I have not watched a DVD in a long time. (months). I find the comast ultimate package + free movie on demand good enough for me. I don't have time to watch a lot of movies and I don't have to see a movie the minute it is released. I will wait till it hits cable.
The last time I was in a movie theater was 20+ years ago. I find that whole experience ridiculous...waiting on line to watch a move with the general public.... No wonder you guys don't catch any fish!

Thanks for the reminder, time to cancel the DVDs... Netflix streaming, hulu plus and a good antenna setup with a tivo box would give you all the tv most people can handle for pretty short money compared to cable or the dish...

That being said, wptmafia is right... Don't blink because it will all change faster than you can imagine...

I ended up just cancelling the streaming for now. Several DVD's in my Que that I want to see. Axed the streaming through my account settings online. Told me I was paid up through the 9th and it wouldn't renew after that. Not sure if it works the same way if you're cancelling everything.

Now it is two seperate bills to be a dvd/streaming subscriber.
I wonder if they see the huge mistake they are making. Looks like their stock will continue to slide.
