Beginner Question About Attaching Hooks
I've used the search feature here and can't seem to find any answers, so I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. I'm a newbie to the plug building thing and am having trouble connecting the tail hook of the plug to the through wire. I've looked at plugs I own and it looks like a loop is made, then the wire is wrapped around to secure the loop. I have tried bending the .62 wire with needlenose pliers and can't seem to do it right. Is there a piece of equipment needed for this? What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any advice and help.

I bend the wire at the tail at a 45 angle, then using pliers I form a loop around a screwdriver. Then I twist the screw driver while holding the wire and cut the tag end. Takes some practice to get the hang of. I'm remember reading alot about it on here though just search around a little more.

Thanks, WadingWill. I tried typing different words into the search field and found some very good info. I'm going to try the screwdriver trick tonight.

make sure you use a phillips screw driver...

The first time you do a decent wrap you will smile. It's all down hill from there.
Just practice. It's like anything else, it takes practice. |
Come to Plugfest and we will show you how. There are a number of ways to do it and all are very simply done. Thats why we have PF each year. Got to learn somewhere and this is the best place.

I tried doing a little tail looping last night with pretty poor results.:fury: The wire I'm using is pretty stiff and I couldn't find my good pliers, so I was using junk ones. I'll be back at it again tonight when the family is asleep. Hopefully with some practice, I'll start getting better with it and will have some decent pics to post before the season starts. |
If you get the right tools it is very simple once you get the hang of it. Junk tools will make it more difficult for you.

round nose pliers made the job alot easier for me
