Very interesting interview
It amazes me how history repeats, read about bunker in the second part.
Also how he started making plugs and was he, as a thread at the other place calls it "commercial"

Love the bunker vs. plugs questions. The man should be a candidate for Sainthood.

Sorry but I am a plug devotee. When it comes to a choice between bait or plugs it affects me deeply. Live Bait catches the biggest fish no doubt. When I ran the flyfishing seminar series in the nineties for the Osterville Anglers Club w/ Capt. Ron Murphy I would always get asked how to take big fish conssitently. Of course they meant with the fly rod but I would put the fly rod down and tell the person who asked "get yourself a ten foot conventional rod spooled w/ 30 pound mono and a big sled dog live eel"

I know what I am talking about, I went almost 11 years strictly fly fishing for striped bass and the biggest bass I ever took was only 32 pounds.

I guess plug fisherman and fly fisherman for that matter enjoy self inflicted abuse. Ah well, I still love bass on plugs and still think it's the most challenging way for without the challenge where is the reward?

what a nice guy .. I have a new appreciation for Danny Pichney after reading that .. I was a fan before .. I like his thoughts on plug building and fishing ,, Its much like alot of guys on this board .. I like the fact he just talked like a regular guy ,, not all full of himself .. Thanks for that Bluefishercat ,,, made my day .

I'm gonna have to study that article, tons of great info in there. Nice piece, thanks for sharing that.

wader-dad 01-19-2008 08:56 AM

I feel so much better now- He says in the interview "Surf fisherman don't seem to fare too well with big fish" I think he was talking about me.

I like the good words about Pat Abate. Great post.

I enjoyed that! I love the part where he admits to singing while driving to pass the time. :)

Two good hearted fisherman just talking. Cool

Dick Durand 12-14-2009 06:18 PM

Wow! I would like to know half as much as Danny Pichney knew. Great reading.
