Mass schools- no cookies for you!

Who started this lame brain idea?
What have we come to?

spence 05-08-2012 07:34 PM

I agree it's crazy, but the flip side is leaving responsibility to the parents is resulting in fat kids.

The kids with the irresponsible parents will still be fat. The cookies won't make a difference. It the trips to the fast food joints that will make them fat.

i cannot resist cookies!....(at all)
since when growing up
with 7 kids in the family, my Mum was a Bake -a -holic
and damn good at it too.
plus thinking that halloween( in those days) was too short lived
i'd just put on my Davy Crockett outfit and go singing for cookies.

i had so many cookies i became the neighborhood Godfather (mafia)

I'm sure I'm going to regret asking this, but here goes. WTF?

Your right Spence, it is the parents responsibilitry, not the schools or
govt. intervention. If either wants to help, they can educate on nutrition
but not take away the freedom to choose.
What a buncha bunk, like a few bake sales will make kids fat.

i had such a large stash of cookies that i could pay kids in cookies
to do errands for me... LOL this was little rascals at it's finest.

as to the ban....on cookies: it used to be that SUGAR was aok
then it was deemed not ok
then the artificial sweeteners arrived and they were deemed superior
not as fattening for the weight loss crowd
well that's all been over turned...
all artificial sweeteners are considered bad now...

Soda is the main culprit and when washing down cookies or muffins or brownies even worse. All the superior foods are considered YUK
by kids because they take no part in growing them harvesting them or cooking them... and there in lies the problem

kids want fast- grab chicken McNuggets no matter what brand they are

corn syrup is in so many products ..........it's deplorable
it's because manufacturers are not selling nutritious products
to make Americans healthier....

they are only in it to make money and could give a Rat's A$$
if your kid weighs 300 pounds.

Then you take the schools that cut out all physical activities during the day, and make students PAY to play sports which have become a cash income source for the schools.

It sounds like the schools (and the cities and state) are doing everything they can to turn students into obedient sheep.
No running or playing in school, no recess, only eat healthy SCHOOL supplied lunches (since your home-made food is considered bad) and if you want to play a sport, prepare to PAY for the priveledge.

I could go on about MCAS uselessness or impressing political agendas at school, the pledge of allegence or even religious control but that would take way too much time (and I don't want to drone on and on).

We will be witnessing the "birth" of the end of our way of life within the next 5 years due to all these controls and influences that are distracting our children from truly learning as they should.

Are the school lunches healthy these days? I didn't touch that crap when I was in school. "Low grade dog meet".

I'm sure most kids get school lunches for free these days anyway on the tax payers dime ..........

When my 3 kids get older and start school, they will not be buying that garbage, healthy lunches from home every day. Wheat bread, fresh fruit and veggies...........

Redsoxticket 05-09-2012 11:34 AM

The young parents of today were the obese children of yesterday.
I recall school food was healthy and good. I would take double lunches on those days of fish sticks and cream turkey.
The menus are created by people whom lost the scope of what is nutritional

Soon we will be legislated into doing everything the way some study showed is best. We will eat what and when the law states. We will shower with government approved soap and do it in the 3 minutes the law will allow. We will all eat the government approved vanilla flavored , no sugar , no fat , no Carb cookies.

Liberal agendas have at their root that we do not know what is good for ourselves so there must be laws allowing the government to tell us how to do everything.

New law to come into effect June 2013.... while sitting on the government approved toilet seat you must keep your feet no more that 12 inches apart and no less than 9 inches apart. You must wipe using no more than 3 tissue segments per bowel movement session. If you are using public facilities , you must keep any grunting noises below 30 dicibels. Violators of any of the above laws shall be fined $100 per incident. Repeat offenders will have their government licensed defication priviledges revoked.

I brown bagged from K-12. It was considered a treat to be able to buy "hot lunch" once in a while so you really had to study the cafeteria menu to make sure you made the most it, but those were simpler times and there was a mother who made dynamite lunches. Now my last daughter is in high school and considers it embarrassing to bring her lunch. She buys every day and when I ask her what she gets most of the time it's pizza and french fries. There's very little that's even prepared anymore, the majority is actually brought in. I can vouch why mine eats what she does, the salads, heated vegetables, most anything they can keep in a warmer look gross. I couldn't believe it until I poked my head in to see just what today's school cafeteria looks like. Our school also banned the sale of soda. I like the fact that the kids can no longer buy it, but there's a soda vending machine in the teacher's lounge.

Bingo SH. Your 2013 law is not far fetched.
We have a bunch of pseudo intellectuals and libertine thinkers who have no clue what goes on in the real world but feel so superior that they must tell us how to live.
All arse backwards.
We are losing our rights faster then we can keep up with it.

The problem with studies is that the data later turns out to be incorrect or flawed
based upon conjecture or was somehow ..... mismanaged.

ThrowingTimber 05-10-2012 09:46 PM

sports and drama clubs, bands etc the arts will be the ones who suffer from this. Good bye fundraising.
