Sochi Olympics

Already some bizarre reports coming out of Sochi.... Starting with unfinished hotel rooms, no flushing of (used) toilet paper, structural cracks. This is going to be very interesting....

Raven 02-05-2014 06:07 PM

no shower curtain for you young lady

Saltheart 02-05-2014 06:15 PM

no flushing of used TP is common place in Mexico, In the basket it goes.

ProfessorM 02-05-2014 06:56 PM

They are still working on stuff. Oh well that's Russia for you. I so look forward to the Olympics and will enjoy it all. I just pray that some nut case doesn't hurt any innocent people .

Saltheart 02-06-2014 02:33 PM

Yeah. Whatever else happens , a safe, violence free games is what all normal people hope for. I'll be watching a lot of events as they appear on national TV. May even tune into some webcasts to see the Russian Women's Hockey where we know one of the players.

I love the skiing and the skating as most do but remember I watched a lot of curling during the last Olympic games. Funny how such a low action sport can grab your interest.

I saw a pretty funny slideshow of pics people posted and tweeted. Kind of sucks for them but pretty funny. At least they have a story to tell

Raven 02-06-2014 03:37 PM

it is so disgusting
that it is absolutely deplorable
that AMERICAN Athletes have to Endure these conditions
as well as attendees...

you couldn't pay me enough to go there

Swimmer 02-06-2014 03:48 PM

There are many new events this year; such as, women's ski jumping.

Bob Costas has a bad eye infection... Must have washed up with some of that brown water.

Saltheart, I get what you are saying about that practice being the norm in parts of Mexico. Just not where I would necessarily choose to go and stay, and certainly not when you are hosting the world at the premier winter sporting event....

Best headline so far. Putin's rumored flame rumored to light the Flame.

Saltheart 02-06-2014 08:39 PM

See what the place looks like in 10 days as it all starts backing up because people decided to flush the TP regardless of the "rules". :)

BigBo 02-06-2014 09:31 PM

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they have roughly seven years to prepare the Olympic village and local accommodations? Socialism at it's best! Just a taste of things to come in this country.

To quote Margaret Thatcher; "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money to spend."

Hell of a good job on the opening ceremonies! :btu:

Very cultural , very artistic and very well done.

nightfighter 02-08-2014 09:24 AM

For all the talk of stuff not being ready, the footage of speedskating looks like a first class venue and reportedly excellent ice. Not many spectators compared to Vancouver....

Bode Miller looks really good... Just saw his last training run. Totally in control compared to the old Bode we all know. Long course. Looking forward to the downhill on Sunday.

Sea Dangles 02-08-2014 10:20 AM

Did any the 30 for 30 piece on Bill Johnson? Boy did he go downhill.

Rockport24 02-11-2014 02:24 PM

I thought the downhill was awesome to watch. Saw Julia Mancuso win the bronze out of nowhere last night, pretty impressive. That downhill course looks insane - the turns at the top look hardcore and very steep.
