this was in the belly of a cod. it appears to be fur. the patch is about the size of a golfball. rest of the belly/intestine was empty. trouble digesting it? fish was healthy looking. any ideas

Striped bass like large mouth will eat about anything that swims on the surface.

niko 01-31-2013 09:37 AM

They are not feathers. I've pulled feathers out of a bluefish and cobia before and this stuff was like fur

yeah...like where can I get me some of that "bedraggled mouse" .

I guess you can't blame the cod for eating so much of it.

BigFish 01-31-2013 04:24 PM

I'd be shocked if there were not... all the cod (ok, not a ton) I've caught out there range from 1-2 worms to a dozen or more. I made a light box to candle the fillets.

niko 02-06-2013 02:31 PM

the small fish had a few worms, not bad. the larger fish had none

JackK 02-06-2013 03:17 PM

Problem with the larger fish is it's tougher to see the worms... They're there just deep in the meat.. Blech

I've pretty much given up on the cod, it's OK but not worth the work of picking out all the critters. Now haddock, but especially redfish??
