Slingah 03-11-2005 10:10 PM

what happened f-18??? u Have some forgotten about warrants???

fishaholic18 03-11-2005 11:06 PM

Since when is it illegal to return something to the authorities.
New to me.

tynan19 03-11-2005 11:12 PM

What happened?

Good story, My bro is a Worcester Cop and this guy came into the station yesterday and wanted to put in a complaint on this woman. My bro gets all the guys paperwork and goes to write the complaint. Well he decides to run the guy for the hell of it. It turns out the guy has 3 warrants out for him. So my bro goes over and arrests him. Stupid:smash:

fishaholic18 03-11-2005 11:17 PM

My son has a clean record and does a GOOD DEAD and gets charged with Larceny????????
What is this world coming to?
Any advice?

tynan19 03-11-2005 11:24 PM

No freakin way. That is impossible. What happened exactly. Did they give him a summons for court? How old is your son and in what town did this happen? I just asked my brother and father. Both said under those circumstances that is not possible. The only thing they could think of is if someone reported to the police they saw him take it from the store.

fishaholic18 03-12-2005 01:00 AM

Thanks for the advice guys....I think I know what I need to do.

Slipknot 03-12-2005 08:06 AM

 :smash: WHAT? he finds a wallet, brings it to the police like you're supposed to do thinking it 's the honest thing to do and they arrest him for larceny?:af: :af:

Dave, I would contact the news and have them do some stories on the news about it, THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS!

Make them clear his record completely.

WTF is going on these days?:smash:

fishaholic18 03-12-2005 08:28 AM

I'll probably have to move when I'm done.
Now what do I tell my 2 younger kids?
If you see a guy bleeding on the side of the road to keep walking, or you may get charged with murder????:af: :af:
Doesn't make sence.

Slipknot 03-12-2005 08:33 AM

Dave, tell us more. Do you know the details? What reason did they give? Did the owner of the wallet accuse him of taking money out of it? Doesn't make any sense is an understatement.

It has nothing to do with me but it pisses me off so much also that I want to call that piolce station and give them a piece of my mind:af:

Ya, sends a good message to your other kids:rolleyes: WTF:smash:

Did Stop and Shop call the police or something?

Those cops need a reality check, something is seriously wrong here.

afterhours 03-12-2005 08:43 AM

as others have said- contact the news- they'll eat this up:bl:

fishaholic18 03-12-2005 08:45 AM

The guy called and reported his wallet missing.
He is not even pressing charges, the police are.
The report says $200 missing and some checks.

Slipknot 03-12-2005 09:08 AM

If the cops can't put 2 and 2 together and figure out that some dishonest person may have found it before your son, and took the $ and checks out first then your son found it, Then what the hell kind of police force are they? Only a moron would turn in a wallet after taking the money:smash: Maybe the cops took the money:eek: ;)

I would still contact the news:af: :af:

what a crock of bull

How can they even think of charging your son with no proof he took the money:confused:  :af:

Nebe 03-12-2005 09:15 AM

I cant beleive that crap:af:

afterhours 03-12-2005 09:24 AM

i'm sure that the kid thought that he was doing the right thing - turning in the wallet so the guy could could get back his license, credit cards, etc. sounds like cops are morons. do a good deed and get arrested?:smash:

fishaholic18 03-12-2005 09:29 AM

The other thing that p's me off is that they came by my house a few days later to question my son (I wasn't home) and they go rifling thru my papers that were on the table. They were also questioning my daughter who is a minor. Not sure if that's right.

afterhours 03-12-2005 09:32 AM

i'd be calling a lawyer and the news- today.

Slingah 03-12-2005 09:32 AM

oh boy....good luck with that...that just is not right:af:

Karl F 03-12-2005 09:57 AM

If no warrant was served, they can't touch anything in the house... time to Lawyer up.

chris L 03-12-2005 10:03 AM

call a lawyer !
If they came in your house and riffled through anything with out a warrant . which is against the law unless the stolen persons ID or 200 and checks were out in the open when they came by to question your son NOT . As far as questioning a minor with out parental permission is also against the law . sounds like your son is being railroaded . they have any witness that saw him take money and checks out of the wallet before he made it to the police station ?

there is something fishy here .

BigFish 03-12-2005 02:53 PM

I would call "Help Me Hank" channel 7 news....they will feast on this and they will put a positive spin on it so your kids will realize what they did was right and what the police and others who were involved did was wrong!:af:

Bob Thomas 03-12-2005 04:05 PM

Bad cops giving us "Good" cops a bad name!! Lawyer up!!

tynan19 03-12-2005 04:09 PM

It just sucks that you are going to have to spend all that money for a lawyer. Keep us posted and I hope you get out to AZ on time.

TheSpecialist 03-12-2005 05:11 PM

I would talk to a lawyer Dave, seems to me like false arrest, and maybe harrasment. I am pretty sure that if they came to see your son at the house, and someone invited them in anything in plain view would be considered a legal search and siezure. I am not a pro so don't go by my word. I would also talk to the guy whose wallet it was, if he is on your side tell him you are calling the news, invite him to the house when the news comes and ask him to speak up fo you.

Surfcastinglife 03-12-2005 05:49 PM

thats complete bs lawyer up call the news and clear ur son's name asap, dont want things like this hanging over his head

redneck24 03-12-2005 06:04 PM

@#$%n' rediculous!:af:

Sorry let's keep this on the track it is on. If you want start another post. :)

MAC 03-13-2005 06:57 AM

Dave, did you try talking to the Chief?

Raven 03-13-2005 06:58 AM

thats insane

....he could have dropped it into the nearest mail box.....

sorry! your having a real life nightmare " fishaholic"......

brings back memories..... bad ones... even,,,,,

my local police station calls me ....saying the Dartmouth police station would like to speak to me..... and being an honest person....i think GREAT! -> they found my lost wallet

....(i thought someone had pick- pocketed me at a bar)......

so i head over their and inform them i'm here about my wallet.... and the next thing i know ....they are READING
me my rights.....and now i'm about to be arresrted for multiple burgularies..... B&E's ......and i'm like ....WHAT?!!!
and WTF are you talkin bout willis..... just incredulous....

so then: i'm informed that my car had been seen in several homes driveways that were broken into and neighbors had copied down the license plate...ect.

on and on it went , with -> having to agree to a search of my home or face more severe penalties for any contraband found other than the stolen items of interest..... pfffffffff

i had lived on west island at the time...and remembered always seeing these two SUITS in a VW hatchback sitting near the causeway..... watchin everyone go by....they were detectives workin my case.....

eventually: i started comparing DATA to my schedual and found out that the burglaries occurred on the day i left my vw bug at a front end shop in dartmouth to be fixed and i didnt reclaim it until the next day....

it was the front end mechanics(crooks) access to my vehicle and the keys ..... i shoulda sued the front end shop.

it just demonstrates the madness that goes ON :af:

Iwannakeeper 03-22-2005 02:36 PM

Anyone who is a cop or has access to cops should verify what I am saying, but I believe the previous post is correct, once you invite a cop into your house, anything in site is fair game. Do not let cops in the house without a warrant. If they want to speak to you, go outside with them.

and big fish has it right - If you do not call "Help Me Hank" I think you are crazy. they are going to do detailed research for you. Present it in a positive light for your son - and show people it is the right thing to do.

And lawyer up is not an option, IMHO.

And for your kids and all kids. I have found a wallet and dumped it in a mailbox as well. I would suggest that, if anyone finds a wallet, drop it in the closest mailbox. I also wouldn't handle it much. Getting finger prints inside the wallet could be evidence that could be used against you. I would only handle the outside of the wallet.

Definitly get a laywer while you can. Call Channel 12 they feast on this kind of stuff. That is just plain dumb. It is definitly harrassment, if they went through your stuff without a warrent..Grab a lawyer as fast as you can. This is definitly wrong.

stripersnipr 03-22-2005 03:34 PM

Sad to say this doesn't even surprise me. One night a couple of years ago I am awakened by a very loud pounding on the front door at 3:30 A.M. I get up to answer and find two cops there. Having come from a law enforcement family, having nothing hide and being appreciative of the job they do I immediately invite them in out of the cold. They ask me if I realize the interior light was on in my car. I responded no, but I probably left it on when I came home that night. One of them asked if I would go check the car to make sure everything was in order and a break-in was not attempted. I complied and went out to check assuming the two of them were behind me. I found everything in order and then realized one of them stayed in the house. No big deal, I and the the officer that went outside with me returned back inside. The officer who stayed behind was no where in sight. I asked officer one where his partner was and he stated "probably looking around". I walked in the living room and found officer two rummaging through an ashtray on the coffee table. At this point I'm feeling that this just isnt right. I asked "what the hell do you think your doing?" Response "just looking around". My response "for what"? answer "Whatever I can find". I then thanked them for their concern and informed them their services were no longer required and please get the hell out of my house now. Thats when officer one requests my name, social security number and date of birth. I see no choice but to comply and give him that information. Not good enough, "Show us ID". I start to go in the bedroom to get my wallet when I'm told to "stop to right there we will go with you". I lost it at this point and said BS you are I'm calling my lawyer and went for the phone. At this point the two of them went outside (presumably running me for warrants). They sat in the driveway for a full half hour with me standing on the front porch glaring at them before they left. The next morning, 9:00 A.M. I'm at the station to speak to the chief who is too busy to see me. I tell my story to the officer at the desk who assures he will inform the chief. Two days go by and I receive a letter form the chief thanking me for my concern and stating his boys were "just doing their job". I know if I heard this story my initial thought would be that this guy must have a history, be a person of interest, etc. etc. Not. I truly beleive this is how these clowns treat everyone and I will never support any policy or law that increases police power in this state.

That's not completely true. Something illegal, like drugs or weapons, would be fair game. They have absolutely NO right to start rifling thru papers unless you consent, or they have a search warrant.

Bronko 03-22-2005 03:46 PM

Lawyer here...F-18, don't walk, run to a lawyer.

There is obviously some information that the police have re: the wallet and missing $$. Somebody probably reported seeing a kid pick it up and walk off with it. The suspects probably took the $ and checks and dropped it. Then your son comes along and turns it in. probably the same height, weight and age of the perp. So the cops think they have at the minimum a possible suspect.

As far as the cops in your home, as long as they were let in by someone of age who has a property interest in the home and is able to consent to allowing them in, their presence is ok. Then anything in "plain view" can be inspected for their safety, or obvious contraband. (ie. your wife lets them in to chat about the wallet and they see a pound of pot on the kitchen table....or a knife with blood on the t.v) I would obviously object to them going through personal papers of yours on the table if an issue ever arose there.

You should get a criminal defense attorney, or at least consult with somebody if the police aren't giving you any answers.

Forgive me if my 4th Amendment skills are lacking, I do mostly real estate now.

BTW-we gotta get together for that "swap" soon.
