The Brits changed their tune when Nasser overthrew King Farouk of Egypt and started making noises about closing down the Suez Canal to British shipping, and nationalizing BP's oil wells. In fact, it was his shutting down the Suez Canal in the 1956 war that sparked the alleged clandestine British intervention. There are photographs and newsreel footage of Mirage fighter jets sporting strange cross-shaped markings, instead of the Star of David. That's what led to the speculation that they were being flown by British and French pilots and not Israelis.

BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNN) -- The Bush administration is waiving the requirement that Americans have to pay or reimburse the government for being evacuated from Lebanon, aides to two senators said. |
Yea, but they'll get 'em with the 25 dollar charge to upgrade to an aisle seat :)

The other side of me says, WTF are Americans doing in Lebanon anyway!? Dont these folks know the middle east is prob not the best place to be now adays!? So part of me says, hey you guys arent that bright for hanging out in countries that have terroist groups roaming the streets! |
Personally I don't see what the problem is in charging them, they were going to have to pay commercial airfare to come home anyway. Now I wouldn't charge them commercial rates, but enough to cover the cost of the fuel would seem appropriate.

1. There were a lot of Lebanese Christians who fled civil war in the 1970's that came to the United States. Not only is there a cultural tie, but there are many family ties as well. 2. Lebanon is pretty modern and Beirut is considered to be one of the more cosmopolitan cities in the region. For the most part it's quite Western and has a large tourisim industry. 3. And perhaps most importantly...the single best thing we can to do combat terrorisim in the long run is to encourage the free exchange of business and ideas with other nations. A strong collaborative relationship with Lebanon is critical to the future of the weak democracy that exists today. We can't collaborate if we're not there... -spence |
I am sure the marines would look forward to being deployed in Beruit again Spence if we re-establish a working relationship with Lebonon.

Also with the Current Middle-eastern Climate escalating there is also a need for people in the Government to have an understanding of different cultures too, so , Again, if someone needs to learn the Lebanese culture what better place to learn it than in Lebanon. I don't think that all the American Students that went over there for college went there to enroll in Terrorism 101 |

Hezbollah leader scoffs at Israeli offensive

What I find simply incredible is how people condone this over use of force when history has proven again and again that groups like Hezbolla are like a video game character who gets stronger each time you hit it.
Unless you can remove it's head, more innovative measures are required. But it's gonna get much worse. From most accounts the charade of a more stable Iraq is falling apart even among the diehard Bush supporters. The civilian deaths and sectarian violence is rising at an alarming rate. Rumor is even some GOP Congresspeople are starting to sing the Murtha tune...and you ain't gonna be able to call them liberal defeatists. -spence |

According to Joseph Farah, Americans are faced with an unresponsive and unaccountable one-party political system, an establishment propaganda machine posing as a free press, and cultural institutions—educational, charitable, entertainment, religious, medical, and others—seduced by the materialistic gods of an all-powerful secular state. Even more important, the crisis this represents cannot be resolved through the political system by electing new politicians to office. A much more profound, long-term, and fundamental shift is needed, one that rejects the validity of the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-controlling state and affirms the values upon which the American nation was founded. a HA. http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/...oticons/36.gif Quote:

This war on Terror is dumb
For one there's no real proof that 9/11 was an act of terrorism. I mean did we uncover any real evidence that it was Al Queta that bomb the world trade? 9 out of the 15 alledge highjackers are still alive.
The only real evidence we have really is the fake Bin Laden video which hell knows where it came from. All in all, if we want to avoid terrorism in the U.S., why don't we spend money in securing our borders and boost up national security. Wait a minute, there's oil in the middle east and terrorists! |
You do realize the radicals are in the minority, and everything we've done so far hasn't gone very far in showing the rest that they're bad.[/quote]
Minority? Not when Arab Nations sponsor numerous radical groups openly and never mind all the hidden funding. We are on the list for Holy Jihad. |
