Here's a second vote for Jon BonJovi, Although The Eagles as a group have amazing vocals,

Females: Mariah Carey has the pipes to beat, too bad she went so ghetto

Katie 03-14-2007 08:37 PM

I have a friend that looks almost exact to steve perry, its scary..

I think we have to throw Geddy Lee from Rush into the mix here...

Deep Purple's lead singer, can't remember his name at this moment, had a hell of a voice too.

Ian Gillian...he was also Jesus Christ in Jesus Christ Superstar.

For singers that really put feeling into there vocals I like Joe Cocker, Ray Charles and Janis Joplin. they sing it like it MEANS something to them

For Front men I like Roger Daltry, Steven Tyler, Robert Plant, Eddie Vetter and Micheal Stipe......Not technically the best but I think there voices are what make there music what it is.

The absolute Best voice around.......Aretha...my god when that woman sings it is truly Amazing.

Got to also give some Kudos to Whitney Houston (Pre-Bobby Brown) she had a spectacular voice.....listen to her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner if you doubt that.

Gonna have to throw Chris Robinson in that category DF

For male vocalist you should check out Jeff Buckley's Grace. The closest I could compare him to would be early Van. Jimmy Page said it was his favorite CD of the 90s.
For females the guy who mentioned Ella hit the nail right on the head. Otherwise for pop stuff Linda Ronstadt is pretty amazing.

I actually own the early CD that had the raw live tracks of some of the tunes on Grace. It's really amazing.

To die at 30.

Ian Gillian
Definitely. Best song was still "Child in Time".
1968?
Dio is up there. Robert Plant.
Amy Lee from Evanescance & Jewel
I actually saw Jewel the fist time she ever played in Boston.
Chris Cornell

I'll think of more............

Eddie Vedder? Good first album. Not groundbreaking, not spectacular, just good. I wish he just shut up after that. But he can't.
Green River and Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone. Much better.

And my pick for the SSB will always be Rene Rancourt.

sok 03-16-2007 12:57 AM

The Eagles.
All of them.
Collectively.
Missed the previous post.
I'll sleep when I'm dead.

Iceman I'll agree...I'm a big Black Crowes fan ....Shake Your MoneyMaker is probably one of the top 10 best albums of the 90's

5 String Bass 03-16-2007 11:53 PM

I fricken love metal.
Dio, Ian Gillian, Bruce #^&#^&#^&#^&enson, Rob Halford,Geoff Tate to name a few...
incredible vocal groups: as mentioned, The Eagles, Doobie Bros. and Yes were amazing.
Female singers: Sarah Vaughn was awesome and Tori Amos is just ridiculously talented.

Can I add one to the Website waiting to happen.....
Michelle Branch.

Black Crowes were fantastic.
Another one I saw on Lansdowne St.(Before Soundgarden.)
April or May 1990. I remember that one because I was still 20.
They only checked the last two digits of my ID.
First show I ever got to drink at.

ThomCat 03-19-2007 06:29 AM

For a distinctive voice Rod Stewart is likely as recognizable as most any. With the Faces he could kick it with anybody and as a showman he could out "Mick Jagger" Mick Jagger. As for versitality he could rock, sing a love song or the blues and even touched on (unfortunately) disco. His 4 American Song Book albums are great although he should probably have stopped at two. Gotta give him credit for being able to survive the many turns in music over almost 40 years along with many bottles of brandy and blondes.

clumber 03-19-2007 06:42 AM

A few I didnt see...

Female-
-Joni Mitchell
-Sandy Denny
-Emmylou Harris (best backing vocals)
-Natalie Merchant

Non-Female-

-Howlin' Wolf
-Gram Parsons
-Jon Anderson (Yes)
-new entry - Jim James (My Morning Jacket)

I caught her when she was opening for Bob Dylan at the Strand in Providence one year, before she hit it big.

Weird to think of Dylan in a tiny venue like that.

Jewel was the bonus though. I was jammed up against the stage looking up. Jewel was sporting her typical short skirt. What a show.

stripersnipr 03-19-2007 12:41 PM

Rikki Lee Jones..........the stuff she did with Dr. John really highlighted her voice in contrast to his.

[QUOTE=For other voices... Anyone ever heard Josh Groban? I don't listen to him, but my mom and sister do, and he has a pretty impressive voice.[/QUOTE]

Katie....funny you should mention it....Not what I would normally listen to but a friend of mine had tickets (and no one to go with)to see him a Mohegan a couple weeks ago and so I went. Again not my type of music but he does have a strong voice for sure!
Freddie M. definately had a voice!
I dont know what it is but Bob Seger's got that "sexy smoldering" tone that I just cant resist...ooh if I ever met him and he spoke to me I would probably faint...;) :topic:

Heck I know there is more but I just lost my train of thought!

DF, I"ll have to get your adress as I've seen them 3 years ago when they played that famous NYC stand, Friday, March 25 which happened to be Good Friday and more importanlty our anniversarry - what a show. Then went Saturday which rocked, these two shows were nothing compared to their Easter Sunday Show - best version of MMS ever recorded live - 19 freakin' jamming minutes. I'll send them to you DF, 3 NYC shows that will free your mind. Love the Crowes......Send me an IM...

I got dragged to Edwin McCain. He was OK.
Jewel was the opener. Never even heard of her until then.
I was impressed. Not just easy on the eyes. No backup band.
Axis?
I saw Dylan once. Opened for the Dead at Highgate,VT
5 shows until "The End?
1995?
I left during his set to get more beer. I was the guy in the black T-shirt at that show.
Left Highgate went straight to Laconia.
That was one long f'n week.
I still have one unripped intact ticket for that show.
The last tour of Jerry Garcia.

I agree. I'm sure his voice rubs some the wrong way, but it works for me. His solo album was pretty solid. Different, but good.

Cymbal Rush (live)

There really aren't any weak Radiohead albums, except maybe Pablo Honey. OK Computer and Hail to the Thief are probably my favorites, but even after all this time my favorite Radiohead album tends to vary month to month...

Lots of nice unreleased tracks on Limewire and other services as well as an impressive collection of live footage on YouTube.
