All this Germaphobe crap is probably why we see so many new allergies.....ever know anybody with Peanut allergies 30 years ago. Everybody is too damn paranoid about being exposed to things that the body doesn't build up any immunities to them.

Unless any kind of contact with food takes place. Much of my work is at events like conferences and company meetings - 90% of meals are buffet style. Breaks tend to have platters of food and many do not use the provided tongs when taking appetizers.

You're right that most of us come into contact with millions (maybe billions) of germs everyday but look at the items that have the highest concentration of germs - computer keyboards, cell phones, door handles - all places that get consistently touched by people's hands.

First look back at history well over 100 years ago this was proven,,,,, There are some very serious illnesses that spread from fecal matter, when people don't wash their hands, to others just by shaking hands or common contact,,, To start Hepatitis is a pretty serious one,,,,right???

In the United states you may get away with it the majority of the time,,,,,, but when you introduce places where certain diseases are more common, certain bacteria thrive and little micro organisms live in much larger numbers of the population the whole story changes and percentages of people getting sick increases dramatically,,,,,

Folks,,, those places are not that far away,,, and with the increasing number of people traveling to or from those places neither are the risks of getting sick,,,,:uhuh::uhuh:

It was just my opinion that having the sink on the outside of the restrooms would work better. I think the people who are most bothered by this idea are the ones who will not wash their hands now because they don't want to touch the faucet that everyone touched otherwise what's the big deal.

The Germy Potato Experiment is designed to teach students about the importance of washing their hands through observation. To do this experiment, you will need three potatoes, hand soap and three plastic bags large enough to put one potato in each.

The Germy Potato Experiment
The first potato will be the control. After washing your hands hands and the potato, peel the potato and put it in a plastic zip lock bag without letting it touch anything else. The idea here is to keep all germs from touching the potato. Label this bag number one.

The second potato will be the germy potato. It is best to introduce this potato after recess. When the students come in, have the second potato washed and peeled, then have each child handle it before putting it in the second zip lock bag. Label this bag number two.

Then have the children wash their hands with soap and water for 30 seconds (sing the ABC’s to make sure they wash long enough). Once they have thoroughly cleansed their hands, wash and peel the third potato and have them handle it before putting it in the third plastic zip lock bag. Label this bag number 3.

Now have the students hypothesize: what will happen to the first potato? The second potato? The third potato? The students should draw and/or write daily observations about changes in the potatoes over the course of one week.

Lets put sinks outside every public restroom. While we're at it, let's also put them on the inside and outside of every door to every public place. After all, we know that the dirty poopy, pee, boogie hand people go to places other than public restooms. How about on all buses, trains and in all cabs? I shudder to think of all the fecal matter, snots and herpes I've been exposed to while out and about.

Or, everyone could do their best to wash their hands and go on living life unafraid of the poopy germs. If you're too afraid that others don't wash theirs, stay home in your freakin' bubble.

Point is you could put sinks everywhere and people aren't going to use them if it's not a habit to do so. I was out Sat. night and the place had automatic flushing urinals, auto soap dispensers, auto fawcets and no doors to the restrooms (you walked around a corner so no one could see in). You didn't have to touch anything to wash up. Still, guys were taking leaks and then walking right out the door without washing their mitts.

YES, IT'S A BAD IDEA!!!!!!!! It's not practical to put sinks everywhere. Do you even understand the reality of retrofitting everyplace I mentioned above to put sinks in? No matter what you do, people are going to have dirty hands. Even if people can see, they still won't wash their hands. Do you get it? I was at a Providence Bruins game on Friday and watched as several guys zipped up, turned around and walked out of the restroom without washing. This was at the end of the game when there were lines in the bathroom, so it's not like their poor bathroom hygiene went undetected by others. I then went, washed my hands and left. As I was exiting the rink, I made my wife hold the exit door since I had just washed my hands. She had gloves on.

Jimmy I have done worse than that but it has nothing to do with being a tough guy, it just has to do with more people washing their hands which might help reduce illness. I know I don't like being sick I'm a bear when I'm sick it irritates the hell out of me that something I can't see can make me feel so bad, I'd rather have an injury that I know how it happened.
And over the years I worked as a janitor in a college science building(also pt at a day care and a rest home) and I did run cultures on many surfaces amazingly the trash barrels next to the professors desk were one of the cleaner places in fact so were the toilet seats . It was the door handles and desktops that had the most filth (germs/viruses/bacteria). But once again if people had easy access to sinks they would wash their hands more and that is where the germs transfer from. Perhaps some people would just wash them because it's right there and it's convenient they wouldn't even have to go in the restroom.

I did not say everywhere I said restrooms and eventually all bathrooms get remolded. At sporting events I'm not suprised who doesn't think there a animal when there; even I do but I wash my hands to get the crap off that I may have picked up from someone else. It has nothing to do with being a tough guy; am I supposed to be impressed by someone NOT washing their hands.

Hand washing is a big deal! It cost us billions$ in unnecessary emergency room visits because of viruses,germs,bacteria. I have taken your input to mean you are against the idea...ok. I'm not sure about your house, but we try to keep fecal matter confined to the bathroom, but if you think it makes no difference there are germs everywhere, I think you need some education on the subject. There are good germs or bacteria too ya know, those are the ones that battle the bad stuff. I don't think fecal bacteria is a good bacteria.

Which I think is true.......people tend to be overly paranoid about the whole germ thing, Disenfectant This and Hand Sanitizer that. Good ones and Bad ones are everywhere and there really isn't anything you can do to keep yourself germ free...outside of living in a plastic bubble.

If you got kids you might as well just wave the white flag...they go to the Public Petri Dish everyday for school anyways.

I've tried to rephrase it many ways - be a man, dont worry about it, you'll survive, etc....the risk of catching anything from a bathroom is incredibly slim. This thread was about OTHERS washing their hands, not you.

Germs are everywhere....it is not necessarily about the germs and exposure to them...it is about your immunity and ability to fight of infection. Guess how you get immunity: exposure!

There are things that we have no immunity to that hand washing can eliminate.
