sharks and strioers

From Old Saybrook to Groton to Fishers Island,,every 4th striper i catch is attacked by these damn brown sharks which never happened a few years ago. I’ve stopped striper fishing in my spots, i can’t stand feeding them to the damn sharks How in the world does this trend fix itself?

Jim I hate to say it, but don't think there's a fix for it. If you get sharked, there's not much you can do but move or stop fishing. The areas you mention are known hotspots for brown sharks in August and September and are now overlapping into July and October.
I encounter the same problem with lemon sharks on bonefish flats. At least there you can see them most of the time and you can break off a fish if they're being chased by a shark. A single shark you can wait out until you see it leave the area. A school of sharks will be more persistent and I'll just leave. With bass, a single shark bite and I'm outa there. There isn't much more than you can do.
 
Fished in friends boat off Sakonet point, rigged for sea bass, but also had crabs for tog. A short time after brief drift a big pod of stripers blew up on the school of bait we had marked before starting the drift. Not really rigged for it but they liked the 3oz double hook metal squid jigs we had. Landed one 20 lber and one slot, but didn’t find them again, so back to drifting, with some success for sea bass, but the real action came after anchoring for tog, good bite, both got limits on sea bass and tog, but what was interesting is a 5 foot brown shark shadowed us all morning regardless of where we anchored. My buddy hooked it once while reeling in a short, I either did as well, or lost a large striper, both battles were brief but intense. Before leaving a large tog we released with bladder issues got nailed violently right on the surface. I have a cool video of the hit, but it probably is to large to upload.
