View Full Version : This Old Tip Up
vineyardblues 12-09-2011, 07:43 PM Let's use up some of the Bosses bandwith :jump1: Winter Time Fun
Please post any if you have any :rotf2: Below is the start of my ice fishing Tip Up or Tilt collection used for ice fishing in NewEngland
The best part of these tipups is how the heck do they work ?
First up is a very rare "Wooden" pop -up , not sure how it works , there is a spring on the inside and a hole on the outside and a small screw , maybe missing a part or two :uhuh: Have yet too see another one made of wood
vineyardblues 12-09-2011, 07:47 PM These are cool and always in my bag when I head out on the ice, the problem with useing antique tip ups is the holes are to big and your equipment may fall in :biglaugh:
vineyardblues 12-09-2011, 07:50 PM Another fun setup that has two sets of flags one green and one red and they spin around like craze when a fish in on :rotf2:
Made on metal that sits inside the hole
ProfessorM 12-09-2011, 08:56 PM your an old friggin tip up, you hoarder.

vineyardblues 12-11-2011, 11:04 AM Very hard to take pictures but you will get the idea, below is a set of strange hard rubber reels and a gismo thingy for the flag
vineyardblues 12-11-2011, 11:06 AM Another great simple tip-up
vineyardblues 12-11-2011, 11:08 AM Home Made , simple stick with a spring and leather :uhuh:
Most of the "stick " tilts were made to lay flat on newspaper or jammed in a pile of snow
vineyardblues 12-11-2011, 11:12 AM Where is Joe ? looking around in the Barn ...lol
Just as a FYI .. The King of ice fishing tip ups is a setup that shoots off a 22 blank :)
Not sure if the near by homes would like to hear "Bang" all day long
I don't own one , but always looking for it !!!!

as a ice fishing cornersuer may i say WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW NICE STUFF:love:
Dave, I think you mean connoisseur. Ice fishing the corner sewer means something totally different to us guys born and raised in Worcester. :biglaugh: I kid you not though, Flaptail once told me which was the prefered sewer cover to fish from near the hatchery spillway. He had fished them both, maybe with you.
Nice stuff VB. I saw one time at an antique tackle show, a type of ice fishing trap where a minnow was impaled on a barb under a spring loaded multi-pronged mechanism. When the fish bit the minnow the spring mechanism released and impaled the fish. Very creative, although I'm not sure how well it worked. I susupect it probably made catch-and release a little tough though.
Ed
vineyardblues 12-13-2011, 03:15 PM Funny you would say that , Back in the Day on Lake Quisig in Worcester when we went smelt fishing , we would open a manhole cover drop a net and brag to everyone on our master fishing skills
ProfessorM 12-13-2011, 07:33 PM Friggin Peter has some of the nicest stuff you have ever seen and way too much of it.

FishermanTim 12-20-2011, 01:47 PM A canvas bag of jiggin sticks
These look like "cusk" traps, or some other bottom dwelling species.
One question I have is Where did you get all those wonderful toys?
You may want to check with a sports or maritime museum to see if they are true "works of art" that may be worth something.

Raven 01-06-2012, 06:42 AM you mean the lead is only banned because of Ducks? Wow!
i know the wachusett res says no lead period because it's a "guarded" public water supply
but say you were using them BIG BALLS in OL South pond in Brookfield....
that is the drinking water supply too there
just not watched like a Hawk. interesting
vineyardblues 02-23-2012, 02:10 PM Gold :smash: I say :rotf2:

wow!!! nice stuff... enough to shift blood flow from one head to the other!
Reel Time 03-04-2012, 05:55 PM That's quite a collection.
I just picked up a box full of tips at an flea market. 2 are Riverside Mfg. Worcester, MA and about ten are home made vintage and crude. I can't figure out how to rig them. Here's some pics. Any thoughts on rigging?
I'll give you a couple if you want some "Folk Art".
vineyardblues 03-05-2012, 11:02 AM Nice , the best part is finding out how they work , yours is simple , looks like you need some weight or snow to keep it up / right or slam it in a crack in the ice maybe , back in the day they did not have gas powered anything ...lol

No power or hand augers... just axes. saws..or some sort of chisel and lots of muscle...
Nice score!
my first ice cutting device was a tire iron mounted ( by hose clamps) to an old rake handle... no wonder my shoulders are junk!
vineyardblues 07-01-2012, 08:05 AM Tip ups on a 90 plus day :)
